Albatross is a transatlantic rowing boat which completed a solo crossing of the Atlantic in April 2008. The rewire included a custom-built printed circuit which controlled all power on board, emergency back-up system, low energy LED lighting, navigation system, water-maker, and rebuild of the radar transponder, vital to the rowers safe passage. Despite horrendous conditions, 79 days at sea, several capsizes and near misses with tankers Anthony Taylor completed the solo crossing with no electrical failures. The electrical systems were a major contribution to his success providing early warnings of ships and a plentiful supply of drinking water. |
